292- I'm super grateful for technologies

Many technologies can be dangerous to use and have occasionally created quite a lot of damage - physical or social, due to technological advancements happening faster than human's capacity to use them with wisdom. However, there are some that can be used efficiently and safely.

Even though I lost touch with some changes or dislike some of the societal or moral / ethical dilemmas some of them bring, I am thankful for quite a few technological advancements over the years and which I use daily, more or less.

IT's already week 46 in the 52weekgratitude challenge, and today's subject is evident : Technology.

  • Despite some issues, I'm glad to live in a world with plumbing technology
  • I love that phone technology advanced and using it doesn't cost the exorbitant amounts it used to be. I love the overall accessibility (but not the mind-numbing smartphone effect, nor the fact people tend to communicate less, though we have never had so many communication devices)
  • Computers can be costly, and need to be more environmentally friendly ; I hope companies will get there. But, in the meantime, computers offer ways of storing information, typing journals or books, and with the internet we can also add messages for oneself or to share with others. Friendships and romances can start online, and there are many support groups for a host of societal issues. We can play video games and listen to music, widening our knowledge and horizons, all at the tip of our fingers. As long as we balance it out with meeting people in person and not letting these become isolating, computers are great. I also discussed this in entry 247 in week 22 of this challenge.
  • Transportation technologies offer us means and speeds of travel that our ancestors needed months to cover. We can meet our friends, visit cultural locations and go to work thanks to these technologies.
  • Watches  allowing us to see the time on our wrists without having to find the city clocks are great, too, and some of them come with a host of other options, which may be useful or total gimmicks
  • Battery chargers are amazing in reducing toxic wastes from non-rechargeable ones
  • Cameras for snaps of our lives, or as artistic expressions are also amazing tools, and have come so far from the old film versions (though those, just like vinyles, have come back)
  • Entertainment technologies (tv, cd, dvd/bd players) to watch entertaining or informative programs, sharing moments with friends and loved ones alike are also great - but just like PC's and phones, must be balanced out with other means of socializing. We can get clearer sounds and images, or watch the kitchy oldies, or now remastered oldies as if they were new - all that and more from these technologies
  • I'm very thankful that I can cook on a stove
  • Some space technologies offered beautiful shots of our universe as well as growing knowledge that has fascinated me for many years !
I'm sure I'm forgetting very evident technologies here, but I cannot be exhaustive. What are you thankful for ?
