lulupetals is a mental health and lifestyle blog. It's mostly about my stories and experiences with mental illness, but includes some sociopolitical topics and lifestyle entries - with additional pages to appear soon. Best reading platform is the PC, as the Mobile version omits all keywords/labels and my entries are so long. Suspecting that I know some people who suffer from burn-out, I wanted to get specifically aware on this social phenomenon, that resembles a depression, but has the distinction of being specifically related to the workplace .
A recent term, created in 1970, it is a process with at least 170 symptoms which have been reported but it is possible to synthesize in 5 large classes.
The appendices of the book, which the author invites readers to read at Chapter 3, offer charts and graphs for self-diagnosis, with symptoms for emotional, intellectual, physical, behavioral and relational burn-outs,by indicating the frequency of occurrence and presence of each symptom.
Then tables for one's pace of work compared to recovery: one for the year , the other over 24 hours. Finally, a scale of perfectionism. These annexes are between pages 137-147.
In all, the book is divided into 6 chapters to define the burn-out, put it in the context of the modern workplace, detect, prevent.
It is illustrated with cartoons ; Quick and easy to read unless tired during a burnout, I love the clarity of the texts and testimonies asides and scattered tips.
I have not found the preface useful , let alone announcing a disturbing test on rats to present the book...
In the same way, I had the cover illustration, a choice that saddens me... (relates to bullfighting)
I stopped reading it before the end, because I hate when authors use dead animals as their only tool to explain issues... such a bad speciest usage.
